Activity 3 - Periodic Table of Elements

What is an Atom?
- the smallest component of an element having the chemical properties of the element.

What are the particles that make up an atom, list their mass and charge?
- Protons (positive charge) Neutrons (no charge) and Electrons (negative charge)

What is the size of an atom?
- The size of an atom can be estimated by measuring the distance between adjacent atoms in a covalent compound.
What is the shape of an atom, where are the particles?
- The shape of an atom is roughly spherical. The protons and neutrons are in the nucleus which is in the center of the atom. The electrons are all around he outside of the atom making a spherical like shape.

What are the characteristics of electrons?
- Electrons are negatively charged.
Electrons are located on the outer shell.
  Particle, very small mass, waves
  Are like light.
